Lucerne is Switzerland’s favourite city. And who can be surprised with it’s picturesque landmarks such as Chapel Bridge “Kapellbrücke” nestled beneath Rigi (The mother of the Alps) and Pilatus. And if that didn’t make it beautiful enough, the River Reuss rapidly flows with springtime melt waters from the photogenic Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee) northwards through the medievel city.
On top of all this beauty, sits a dynamic and cultured city, with a proud military past. The Lion Monument “Löwendenkmal” stands as a sombre and beautiful memorial to the Swiss Guards who died during the French Revolution of 1792.
From the Museum of Transport (Verkehrshaus) which celebrates Switzerlands incredible transport achievements, particularly in regard to railways and tunnels, such as the world famous Gotthard Base Tunnel. Through to the modernistic KKL Luzern (Culture and convention centre) sat upon the Lake.
Lucerne hosts a sizeable tourist industry, alongside a concentration of financial and trading companies, and family offices who benefit from the canton’s advantageous taxes.
